Keeping SEO Simple

August 7th, 2009 by admin No comments »

One rule that I try to follow is the KISS rule. Basically, if you haven’t heard of it, KISS stands for Keep-It-Simple-Stupid.

Sometimes I fail miserably at following that rule, but when it comes to SEO, I try very hard not to overwhelm my clients with jargon, code, and terms that make any one’s eyes glaze over.

If anyone asks me for details, I’d definitely help them out, but for the most part, as an SEO copy writer, I try to stick to what I do best, writing relevant content that will drive traffic with qualified leads. Obviously, the more qualified leads that contact you, the better chance you have of landing a sale, or becoming that resource that you want to become.

In order to do this one thing must happen before anything else:

You must have substantive content that focuses on a few keywords that are relevant to your unique business!

One example of this is wikipedia. Type in any term into Google and, more often than not, a wikipedia page will be on the first page. Why?

Content, content, content…..and MORE content!

Wikipedia is constantly expanding, growing, and in the eyes of Google, updated and, therefore, important (I’ll try and write a post on this soon…).

Ultimately, your site needs new and relevant content in order to either rise to, or remain on, the first page of Google.

More to come soon!

Why hiring a blog writer is a good idea

Having a blog is a critical aspect of SEO. Many of your competitors may have a blog. Some are using it with great results. Others haven’t updated it in months, maybe longer.

If you have a blog that’s gathering dust, or if you’d like to start up a new one, then hiring a blog writer is a great idea.

Why?

Well, one of the main reasons that people fail to maximize their blog’s full money-making potential is because they:

  1. Don’t have the time to update their blog
  2. Bang their head against the wall because they run out of ideas
  3. They’re just not confident writers
  4. They don’t understand how a blog can both positively and negatively affect a person’s business

That last point is critical. Setting up a blog and making sure that it’s filled with relevant content is absolutely critical. This is where hiring a competent blog writer is a good idea.

How do you know you’re working with a good writer?

Listen to the questions they ask. For instance…if they don’t even care to ask, “Can you tell me what you, or your best salesperson does to land a sale?” or, “If you were looking for your business online, what would you search for?” then, you may not be talking to someone who will do a good job for you.

Needless to say, if the web copywriter that you are considering DOES ask those questions, then you know you’re talking to someone who understands SEO and what it takes to get your blog, and your business higher rankings in Google.
